UPDATES FROM WAR IN ERETZ YISROEL

As predicted on YIDVID (see below) an all-out war has broken out in Israel after Hamas attacked Southern Israel earlier this week. Shabbos afternoon Israeli Forces invaded and Israeli War Planes bombed locations on the Gaza Strip. The massive IDF surprise attack has killed over 200 people, and has injured close to a thousand others. Meanwhile, Israeli tanks are rolling toward Gaza. Hamas has fired hundreds of rockets back at Israel, tens have been wounded, and one person was killed R"L.

The IAF's strikes started on Motzei Shabbos (Israel time) after a 58 year old resident of Netivot was killed and 4 others were wounded, 1 seriously.


*The death toll in Gaza rises to 255, with more than 600 wounded, Israeli Sources: 271 dead.

*Gaza Operation - Cast Lead - Day 2: 280 dead, 680 injured, Knesset approves the call up of thousands of reservists, rockets pounding Eretz Yisroel.

*Israeli aircrafts carried out, throughout Sunday, a series of attacks against smuggling tunnels in the area of Rafah.

*At least 40 rockets and mortar shells were launched at Israel over the course of Sunday.

*The death toll from the Israeli attacks on Gaza has risen to at least 284, with more than 900 others reported injured.

*Hamas threatens they will strike Israeli FM Livni, inside Knesset compound, and hunt Israeli defense minister Barak.

*Hizbullah has vowed to attack Israel in the north in retaliantion for the IDF military operation against Hamas in Gaza.

*150 rockets, since the operation began, have hit Ashkelon, Nesivos and 3 rockets have hit near Ashdod, 23 miles from Gaza, tanks are stationed near the border.

*Ten of Thousands in Yerushalayim, Tel Aviv, and Haifa lost power today when a gas device at Ashdod's Eshkol Power Plant malfunctioned, after it was hit by a rocket.

*The Lebanese army says that 4 Israeli warplanes violated Lebanon's airspace and flew for more than a hour over Lebanon.

*On Sunday, the Israeli Army bombed more than 40 tunnels linking the blockaded Gaza Strip with Egypt's Sinai desert.

*Ashkelon shopping malls were closed Sunday evening, on fears of an attack.

*Iraeli Shin Bet: Hamas has rockets capable of reaching up to 40 kilometers.

*Red Cross sends medical supplies to Gaza hospitals.

*Hundreds protest outside the Israeli embassy in London, 3 people have been arrested in regard.

*Palestinians breach section of the Gaza-Egypt border; Reports: thousands of Palestinians enter Egyptian territory.

*UK police say more than 700 demonstrators are protesting outside the Israeli Embassy in London against the Israeli invasion of Gaza, 3 violent protesters have been arrested.

*At least 20 children and 10 women are among the 284 fatalities from the Israeli attacks on Gaza.

*Protests against Israel's bombing of Gaza have begun already in London, with over 1500 pro-Palestinians protesting, and a few arrested for violence. In New York City protests by the Israeli Embassy in Manhattan will begin at 2:00PM. In Toronto, approximately a thousand protesters are expected to gather in front of the Israeli Embassy on Bloor Street at 2:00PM to protest Israel's attack. In Ottawa protesters will gather at the Human Rights Monument.

*Iran declares day of mourning for Palestinians killed in Gaza.

*According to Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, Israel will not occupy Gaza as it has done in the past. The reason Israel is bombing Gaza is because, according to the Foreign Minister, Hamas was smuggling weapons from Eygpt and amassing a small army.

*IDF: Hamas likely to renew rockets within 24 hours. Meanwhile, the IDF has called up 6,700 reservists to duty as the Gaza operation continues.

*Hezbollah leader Nasrallah says he asked his forces to be ready for the possibility of an Israeli attack on Lebanon.

*An Israeli air strike makes a big hole in the Gaza-Egypt border, people tried to escape to Egypt, Egyptian Police prevented them. The Israeli air strike on the Egypt borders, caused the death of an Egyptian officer.

*Israeli air strikes have leveled Gaza's intelligence headquarters amd Olympics Committee buildings. Major explosions can now be heard in Gaza as Israel renews strikes. A land attack can happen at any moment as the IDF has called up almost 7,000 reserves, and has brought hundreds of tanks to the Israel-Gaza border.

*Red Cross: Gaza's hospitals are running at overcapacity, the hospitals are turning away the wounded.

*The Israeli air force has carried out 10 more air strikes on Gaza in less than an hour.

*Hamas says 180 of its members were killed and the rest of the fatalities included civilians;
Israel: The majority of killed were militants.

*The IDF predicts Hamas will renew rocket attacks within 24 hours.
Palestinian death toll passes 280; The Israeli Army deploys artillery batteries, amasses troops along Gaza border;

6,500 troops on the ready;
Foreign Minister: The world blames Hamas;
IDF: 50% of the Hamas underground rockets have been destroyed.

*Total- 296 dead;
40 tunnels were destroyed in Rafah; Alot of activity at the Gaza-Egypt border with arabs trying to cross.

*Major Pro-Arab Protest now in Manhattan on Madison Avenue and 48th Street, Neturei Karta also has a group there. Police are requesting back up for crowd control. They are protesting Israel's attack on Gaza.

*In protest of the Israeli attacks in Gaza, young arabs in East Jerusalam became wild, and some of the youngsters went up to Har Hazeysim, where they went around breaking Matzeyvos and throwing stones.

*Israeli warplanes bombed Islamic University in Gaza;
Unconfirmed report that 8 children were killed in the last Gaza attack;
More explosions reported now in Gaza;
Now reported a series of Israeli air strikes on different locations in Gaza;

*According to witnesses, there are no casualties at UIG, a significant Hamas cultural symbol, after five bombs were dropped on it.

*In response to the Gaza raids, Hamas threatens to assassinate Tzipi Livni, Ehud Barak. The Ministry of Education has extended Chanukkah vacation for students in Sderot and Ashkelon, due to the current situation.

*Most of the Islamic University in Gaza is completely destroyed, 5 rockets were dropped;
Israel will send into Gaza tomorrow, 100 trucks with aid;
Palestinians report 14-month old baby among casualties in IAF strike on Gaza.

*Dozens of new air strikes now in Gaza. Planes are flying over Gaza City as Israel carries out dozens of new airstrikes. Israeli military choppers are still flying over Gaza's sky and anti-ground missiles are trying to fire at them;
Israeli gunboats have attacked the fishermen port in Gaza and they completely destroyed it;
Iran orders Muslims to defend Palestinians in Gaza;

*The Israeli attack on a building in Jebaliya refugee camp kills 4 people, including a 14-month baby;
