Eretz Yisroel: Rav Ovadia Yosef Shlita, speaking in his weekly Motzei Shabbos shiur, spoke about the secular education system. The Rav Shlita referred to secular teachers as Chamorim. The Rav explained that the teachers in the secular system lack the basic knowledge of Torah and the basics in Yiddishkeit, calling them chamorim bnei chamorim. Shas leader Eli Yishai eplained that the secular media takes excerpts from the speech without having any idea of the general concepts addressed in the Ravs Torah lectures. Yishai quoted a passage from Masechtas Shabbos, in which we are compared to donkeys, explaining that today's generation is inferior than past generations. Labor Party leader Ehud Barak said that "Such references are unworthy and should be retracted." Kadima leader Tzipi Livni stated, "A public apology is in order, for the Rabbi's words are an insult to tens of thousands of the nations dedicated teachers and therefore, intolerable."
